Dry Needling

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique that uses thin, sterile needles to target trigger points in muscles, helping to relieve pain, reduce tension, and improve mobility. It’s effective for treating muscle pain, stiffness, and certain musculoskeletal conditions, promoting faster recovery and enhanced function

What to Expect: Dry Needling

At Monastery Health, an initial  consultation will include a case history which involves your medical history, information about your lifestyle, diet, sleep habits and digestion. Your physiotherapist will ask you about your current condition, check your tongue and pulse, form an initial diagnosis and a program of treatment will be prescribed. Your therapist will provide some guidelines for treatment and you will have an idea of how many treatments will be required to resolve your condition and changes in diet and lifestyle may also be discussed.

During a dry needling session, a trained practitioner will use fine, sterile needles to target specific areas of your body. Dry needling focuses on trigger points in muscles to relieve pain and tension, while acupuncture aims to balance energy flow and promote healing. You may feel a mild sensation when the needle is inserted, but most people find the treatments relaxing. Sessions typically last 20-30 minutes, and some people experience immediate relief, while others may notice gradual improvements over time.
